93 - Household Predators (w/ Kyla Garten!)

93. Household Predators

You don’t have to be the big cat to be the top dog. Today, we’ll discuss how our feline friends impact the world and natural world around us. Let’s learn to be scientifically conversational.

General Learning Concepts

1)     Discussion questions:

a.     What is the trophic pyramid? Why is it sometimes called an energy pyramid?

b.     What is prey? What is a predator? What is an apex predator?

c.     What is a cat? Why could a domesticated cat be considered a predator? Does being a predator mean there has to be bloodshed? How does this tie in with the previous (episode 17) discussion of invasive species and biodiversity? Who is Tibbles?

d.     How can cats act as vectors for parasites or viruses (eg. toxoplasmosis and rabies)?
